Registered Yoga Teacher Training
There is Nothing Like Direct Experience

"There is nothing like a direct experience to complement study, learning, and the empowerment of instruction." - Poised for Grace

200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher Training

The Northern California Yoga Institute is a Registered Yoga School through Yoga Alliance and offers a 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher Training Program. Upon completion of the program, participants will feel comfortable and confident offering yoga classes to the general public in studios and fitness clubs as well as customized small group and one-on-one IDY sessions.

As with every Northern California Yoga Institute IDY program, these programs are an experiential journey into the heart of yoga. The complete 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher Training is guaranteed to explore your insides and challenge you in ways you never imagined…physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. It has been designed to engage you – to discover, in real-time, moment-by-moment, the transformative power of Yoga through its teachings and practices. By studying in this way, you naturally acquire the insight and understanding derived from your life experiences and personal perspectives to develop your authentic teaching style and practice.

Not only will you learn and experience the essence of Yoga, you will also learn how to integrate Yoga with current health, fitness and wellness practices. Because Yoga is not like an exercise class where one method fits all, Yoga teachers need to know how to modify a Yoga practice to meet an individual's needs, even in a group setting. The Northern California Yoga Institute and IDY follow a philosophy that is complementary to the fundamental principles of exercise science, health, and fitness. Yoga teachers who complete the 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher Training Program are able to talk about Yoga in the language that esteemed health practitioners understand best: science.

The Northern California Yoga Institute's 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher Training is open to anyone with a basic foundation in Yoga and is especially suitable for those wanting to teach Yoga in a studio or fitness club venue. This program is also geared toward those who would like to provide small group and one-on-one Yoga sessions as part of their current health and wellness profession, such as personal trainers, massage therapists, wellness and life coaches, and energy and body-workers.

Because life can be busy, the 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher Training has been scheduled 1 weekend a month for 8 or 10 months (each weekend we meet 20 to 22.5 depending on the studio's availability in order to meet the required "contact" hours). This allows participants to accommodate life, career, and family commitments. It also gives students an opportunity to integrate what they have learned through practice and teaching. The complete 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher Training also serves as the prerequisite for the IDY-Affiliated and IDY-Certified programs.

200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher Training

The first phase of the 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher Training provides the foundational background for practicing and teaching Integrative Dynamic Yoga. Specific focus is placed on IDY's Seven Principles of Synergy. Participants gain a solid understanding of IDY's Integrative Principles of Alignment, Dynamic Movement and Sequencing, Balanced Energetic Action, Mind/Body Centered Awareness, Self-Realization, Self-Expression, and Recognition as applied in Level 1 postures.

The second half of the 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher Training focuses on the art of teaching IDY and provides the foundation to teach yoga rooted in the IDY tradition. Emphasis during this phase of the Training is on specific teaching methods including: how to systematically teach a pose, structure a class, build a sequence based on a posture theme, utilize music, expound a philosophical concept, create sacred space, inspire and motivate students, and build a yoga community.

Home Study and Internship Program:

The intention behind skillful and inspirational teaching comes from the embodiment of the practice. Home study includes a variety of assignments that will allow you to discover your own path…and to walk that path. The more wisdom and experience you gain from continual study and practice, the more you will be able to guide others on their journey.

As part of this 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher Training is a comprehensive Internship program that includes teaching a series of yoga classes. Why? Most 200-hour trainings provide a Certificate of Completion without ever observing a Trainee teach a yoga class and providing feedback. The Northern California Yoga Institute believes in mentoring students through the initial stages of their teaching practice and beyond. Kamie will work with students individually to assist them in discovering their way as a yoga teacher. Kamie will schedule one-on-one sessions with students, including attending a Trainee's class and/or reviewing video/dvd recordings of classes for input and feedback. By requiring participants to teach mid-way through the training, Trainees return to the training and the mat with an open and inquisitive mind, and for some learning to work through the challenges and fears of teaching.

As part of the Internship program, students will be expected to reach a certain level of proficiency in their personal yoga practice before obtaining their 200-hour Certificate of Completion. Kamie emphasizes that teachers teach from their personal experience and part of that experience comes from a dedicated Yoga practice. Kamie will work individually with students to deepen and strengthen their practice - discovering for one's self the transformational power of Integrative Dynamic Yoga.

A more detailed description of the home-study and Internship program is provided in the APPLICATION and AGREEMENT.
