Discover the Essence of IDY

"The question is never whether we are practicing yoga but rather are we practicing yoga well." - Poised for Grace

What are Workshops and Immersions?
The Northern California Yoga Institute offers a variety of IDY Workshops that work to deepen and expand one's yoga practice. An Immersion is simply a commitment to a series of Workshops. Workshops are extended classes, 3.5 hours in length, that focus specifically on the Integrative Dynamic Yoga-IDY Method and IDY's Seven Principles of Synergy. Workshops also focus on a particular posture theme, such as standing postures, inversions, backbends, floor postures, twists etc.. Workshops include a mixed level IDY practice with time spent on demonstrating poses and assisting each other in realizing the full freedom and potential in each posture. Workshops are taught by Kamie Noelani, E-RYT .

Why Attend a Workshop?

Techniques practice: IDY Specialty Classes and Workshops are longer than a typical practice but won't require your entire day.
Q and A: These classes are about establishing a dialogue, participant questions shape and guide the overall format.
Practicing is learning: Yoga is an experiential process,
here you will discover your capabilities. It is where the journey gets exciting, challenging and rewarding.

Advanced IDY Sadhana
For those who want to seriously practice yoga in action, it is time to formulate a specific sadhana. Sadhana means "endeavoring to obtain a particular result." Advanced IDY Sadhana is a powerful method to achieve this result. There are three important aspects of sadhana: choice, commitment, and aspiration. These Workshops focus on challenging IDY vinyasa movements and yoga postures including hand and arm balancing poses, inversions, and backbends that greet your physical, mental, and spiritual edge. We also use the yoga wall and props to deepen various yoga postures. Time is also spent practicing breathing techniques and sitting meditation. Some of the advanced "challange" poses that we practice in these workshops include (and whatever else we can think to play with):
- Pick Up and Jump Back
- Jump Through to Sitting
- Kurmasana (tortoise)
- Eka Pada Koundiyanasana I and II (pose dedicated to the sage Koundiya or one legged arm balance)
- Dwi Pada and Eka Pada Viparita Dandasana (inverted staff)
- Eka Pada Galavasana (flying crow)
- Eka Pada Rajakapotasana (one-leg king pigeon)
- Surya Yantrasana (sundial or compass pose)
- Vrschikasana (scorpion)
If you are wanting to take this Workshop for credit towards Advanced Studies and Certification, ongoing participation (50 classes) in Kamie's Advanced IDY Sadhana class, offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, would fulfill the Training requirement. Introduction to IDY - Refinements in Alignment
The Refinements in Alignment total 37.5-hours towards Continuing Education with Yoga Alliance and other IDY Programs and Certification. These Workshops are a deeper exploration of Integrative Dynamic Yoga's Integrative Alignment Principles. Participants will continue to expand their knowledge and application of the Principles as introduced in the IDY Classes and other IDY Workshops and Advanced Studies Programs. These Workshops are specifically designed for those wanting to: 1) deepen their understanding and application of alignment principles and 2) take their practice to a new level.
