| IDY Philosophy - The Path of Bliss

This is a 12-hour Yoga Philosophy Seminar Series that expands upon some of the foundational tenets of Yoga. IDY integrates Tantric Yoga principles with contemporary philosophical practices that cultivate the belief that life, this embodied experience, is a gift and Yoga provides a means of "nurturing our choices, transforming potential into reality, and deepening the experience of our own true divine nature." "Yoga...describes every possible kind of meaningful relationship and engagement. The question is never whether we are practicing yoga, but rather are we practicing yoga well"? (Poised for Grace)
This Seminar Series has been incorporated into the Fundamentals of IDY Teacher Training, although participants do not need to be aspiring yoga teachers to participate in the lectures.
The Path of Bliss Seminar Series is led by David Scholz, NCYI's guest lecturer and philosophy instructor.

Seminar Series
Each Seminar totals 3 hours of lecture and discussion with David Scholz. Each session is broken into 2, 1.5 hour lectures with a lunch break between. I guarantee you'll want to attend both sessions.
The Three Great Movements of Yoga
The known history of yoga stretches over 3500 years and presents a dazzling array of traditions, lineages and practices. Still, three great movements emerge starting with the sacrificial mysticism of the Vedas; progressing through the ascetical traditions of the Axial Age; and evolving into the mature traditions of devotionalism found in Bhakti Yoga and the world affirming approach to spirituality found in the Tantra. How power shifts is the key concept that we'll consider in this look at the three great movements of yoga. This shifting power equation concerns itself with one central question: Who is the agent of grace?
The Tattvas & the Tantric Order of Reality
The Tantric order of Reality offers an explanation of how an unlimited, unconditioned and immortal singularity devolves into the limited, conditioned and mortal plurality of life that we experience all around us. Straining itself into existence, this singular, ultimate Reality gives rise to the infinite plurality of being that we experience as the world. This Tantric order is represented in the Tattvas, the categories of existence, a hierarchy of experiential realities that trace the ascending and descending path of the divine as the formless One assumes infinite form. The Tattvas, literally “that-ness,” are both the source and the substance, the streaming matrix of energies, that loom and weave the universe into being.
Poised for Grace: The Bhagavadgita in the Mahabharata
A great battle is about to commence. Powerful warriors in opposing armies stand ready at arms. Yoked in karmic alliances they stand on the eve of destruction and a devastating battle that will decide the fate of all India and claim almost every life. A single chariot draws up and stops in the middle of the plain of Kuruksetra, the final field of battle. Arjuna, the great Pandava warrior and his charioteer and brother-in-law, Krishna are aboard. The Song of the Lord is about to begin.
